On notice boards

Dear Umair Saeed,

Regarding your notice regarding notices on the notice boards, you say that students cannot post notices anywhere besides the TISF notice board. I have some points in contention:

1. What about student notices that are not TISF notices?

For example, the TISF has declared that Quack!, the student newspaper, is not a TISF publication and this the TISF does not recognize Quack! So where does Quack! go?

TIP's Personal Bermuda Triangle

An open letter to the person (persons) who stole my cellphone, wallet, pokerchips, and book from outside the library.

Dear (insert expletive here),

May you go bald, cross eyed, bow-legged and may your girlfriend (or boyfriend) dump you publicly in a highly humiliating manner. Amen.

Cursing you profusely,

Hira Saiyed (TDT 1)

It seems that orange, flowery, over-sized bags are the main targets of all the thieves in TIP, because mine has been hit not less than 3 times. The cubicles outside the library serve as the happy hunting grounds of all of this tiny community's lowlifes, and it also serves as an irony that though the library itself is covered by security cameras, there's not a single one outside where most of the action takes place.

Sponser a tree

For the sake of the people, please, please sponser a tree!

Alright, so maybe the situation isn't as dire as all that, but honestly, once summer officially steps in, every one of us will be looking for the nearest tree in sight and it will be tragic if all the shade is already occupied by twenty heavily sweating people.

Think about it.

This isn't really an article. It's a notice, and it's on Quack with the hope that people will actually read it. People who'll realize that sometimes things aren't the management's responsibility; but rather our own.

So plant a tree. It'll be your own contribution to a place you'll spend four years of your life in. A place you'll laugh in, probably cry in (I already have. Twice.), eat crappy food in, and most importantly, learn about yourself in. Plant a tree. This tree will probably outlive you; it will surely outlive your stay in TIP. It will be something to remind you of who you were when you planted it. It'll be a milestone, a memory, something you know you can be proud of for the rest of your life. Think of it as a work of charity, as a duty, as a stupid bit of fun, but at least think about it.

It won't be that big a deal. We're not asking you to go buy an acacia, sit with it in your lap throughout the two hour ride and then dig a 4x4 foot hole to plant it in. We've got all of that covered for you. We're just asking you to spare the money, and we'll do the rest.

So what are you thinking about? Go plant a tree!

And the whining never stops!

By Zash

The second half of the academic year 2005-2006 marks the beginning of change in the Textile Institute of Pakistan. However what is surprising and at times alarming is the fact that these changes are taking place at a very fast pace.

From among many of the modifications that are soon to take place is the impending increased university timings. This was announced by the President TIP, Dr. Zubair Bandukda in the meeting held last Friday and if you are thinking that
it was decided solely by the numero-uno of the TIP then you are surely mistakened. In fact, this was prompted by the incessant complaints launched by some students that they are forced to take consecutive four classes which in turn:

  • Leaves them lethargic and sleepy till the fourth class i.e. they can not concentrate during the class on lectures.

  • And more importantly prohibits them from having lunch by the side of their sweet friends.

The authorities said "Lo and behold!". The ideal remedy hence suggested was that either the students be given an extra half hour slot for lunch most probably between the 3rd and 4th class resulting the chutti-time to be delayed by another half hour, at 4:30 pm. Or an even BETTER option where the university will remain open for six days i.e. on Saturdays as well.

The Beginning of the End

Around the lake at TIP, we have some lovely plants

The cure to writer's block is Oreos. It's only by consuming nearly a boxful that I've managed to begin this article. By the time I end it however, I'm certain we'll all be comfortably sitting in our homes watching the latest episode of ' Kusum' or whatever Indian drama is fashionable nowadays.

I'll give you this though; the semester passed faster than a speeding bullet. I still recall the first day of university like it was a week ago. At this pace, I'll be over with TIP before I know it and before I have any idea what's going on. We first years only have half a year left as the center of attention. Soon another batch of straight-from-the-schoolroom boys and girls will take our place as celebrities. Sigh...all good things come to an end; the semester is ending, the year is ending, the Pakistan-England cricket series is ending and so is my box of Oreos. I wish scientists would invent something useful, like time turners, rather than wasting their energy in alternately increasing and decreasing the size of mobile phones.

I keep thinking...just one week left. That's all. Maybe I am being melodramatic but think about it: time's flying and not on fairy wings either, but on giant turbo jet engines. You can see every minute running past and by the time you eventually notice it, it's over. And the worst part is knowing that what just happened wont occur again. The moment is gone, get used to it.

Welcoming the class of 2009!

By Sadaf Haque TMM3

Hi there, all of you! This article is for all those out there who are scared or excited on their first day at TIP. The gist of the article is a brief intro to TIP, its ways, trends and the way stuff works here!

TIP (trust me) is a roller coaster ride. From the day you step in, to the day you leave you'll be greeted with lots of unexpected as well as expected stuff. At TIP (I just don't want to start with how the faculty is since it would make the article way too boring, so getting on with the cool stuff here) coolness and insanity (yes insanity) are two adjectives you will see a different view of during the first two weeks. I'll try and give you a portrayal of my experience to guide you through.

Leaving and Remembering TIP

Four years have passed and I now I am leaving TIP (not only I but also my 70 batch mates). At this moment when ever I get time, I recall the days that I spend at TIP, the hostel life, the TIP study hours, the nights before the hourlies (now exams), the TISF functions, BBQ night, musical night, carnival night, dramas, movie night in open air theater and above all the early days of the each semester when the fresh students lot come in, the ragging days and nights, the ISSB at hostel, the TIP evenings, the fast blowing cool winds in hot days. TIP for me is not only the place of learning but also the place for the enjoyments and I avail this opportunity. The time I spend at TIP, I would not forget never ever in life.

First TIP band in the making!

A handful of students, with ample support from seniors, are striving to make this venture a successful one. The band already has a couple of keyboardists, a guitarist and perhaps over 300 prospective singers. Anyway jokes aside, all those interested in joining us can contact either of the following people:

  • Shalim Ruben (TMM2)
  • Khalid Khan (TS1A)
  • Aasim Ahmed (TSIB)

New Classrooms Eat Science Labs!

The growing student population has made the TIP administration finally realize the lack of classrooms. Steps are being taken for the development of new classrooms. These new classrooms are being built inside the Wet Processing Lab, hence shrinking the already small area shared by our Prayer Area.

In other news, there are more extensions in the campus lab equipment.

Update: The Prayer Area has been shifted to the hostel cafetaria. That should accommodate our larger student body.

The four classrooms being built on the side of the Wet Processing Lab are nearing completion.
