TIP's Personal Bermuda Triangle

An open letter to the person (persons) who stole my cellphone, wallet, pokerchips, and book from outside the library.

Dear (insert expletive here),

May you go bald, cross eyed, bow-legged and may your girlfriend (or boyfriend) dump you publicly in a highly humiliating manner. Amen.

Cursing you profusely,

Hira Saiyed (TDT 1)

It seems that orange, flowery, over-sized bags are the main targets of all the thieves in TIP, because mine has been hit not less than 3 times. The cubicles outside the library serve as the happy hunting grounds of all of this tiny community's lowlifes, and it also serves as an irony that though the library itself is covered by security cameras, there's not a single one outside where most of the action takes place.

Javaria Said

By Javaria Said TDT3

Vacations are coming to an end and university is about to start. A fresh semester is about to begin, with new courses, new teachers and a lot of other things to look forward to. But enough to dampen the most exuberant of spirits is the fact that it is time for back-to-school shopping. This is when one has to drag oneself to the bazaar. Yes surprisingly despite being a girl I don't like to shop, detest it to be more exact. Usually my mum shops for me but this year she refused flat out, "shop for yourself or no new clothes!" And in spite of how little I may care about my appearance (during half of the semester I won't even bother to iron), one cannot go to university with the same old wardrobe. At least for the first week you have to have something new to flaunt, and no I don't know who wrote that law).

And the same school bag? You got to be kidding. Time to hit the stores, check the brands and empty the wallet for 'that' bag and then pray that no one else has the same thing. Because "of course" you can't carry the same thing as another person, at least no self-respecting female can. But bags and shoes are the easy part (at least for me; I don't match and wear) I can only but pity the females who wear different accessories everyday, imagine the trips to the bazaar *shudder* (apparently they enjoy it, can't say anything about tastes now can we).

But clothes, clothes you can never have enough of. No 30 minutes in one shop and you are through. No sir-E. This year due to my mum's refusal to shop for me, I had to bear the tortures of the bazaar, the haggling, the crowds, and the noise. And to think, females do this for fun. Weird sense of entertainment! How can walking for 3 hours in the midst of the most terrible of crowds, in the heat of Karachi, going over a million shops, checking out a gazillion things and ending up buying the first thing you looked at from the first shop you entered be fun? And that too, many a times.

Clothes bought torture over? Sadly no. Now come the compulsory visits to the tailor. My mum is cruel, she insisted I go or she wouldn't give them. So listening to the tailors crap, making endless rounds to their shop to listen to "kal mil jaega," and eventually getting it weeks later stitched in your mother's size. Then giving it back, making 10 more rounds and getting it again to still find it wrong. I know people would have taken it back to the tailor. Me? I am but human. They will work for me as is. I don't care if I have to wear the same clothes for the rest of my life I am not going through this again.

It's Election Time Again!

by Javaria Said TDT2

It's election time. The time of the year, again, when the entire TIP student population becomes imbued with fervor rarely witnessed. Students never seen before participating in any event are suddenly on the forefront. People are being extremely nice and free food is the order of the day. People are seen fighting, dealing, bribing and wheedling votes for all they are worth. Votes are sold, promised and snatched. The atmosphere is tense and everybody is seen busy. People are approached, convinced and campaigning is carried out on full scale. People who you don't even recognize come up to you and act as bosom buddies. And then there are the personal attacks, the venom and the counter attacks. The amount of importance a 'seat' holds is unbelievable. It becomes a matter of life and death. Meetings are held, promises are made and deals are struck. Will people please lighten up?!

Dear Fellow Tipians

Abdul Saboor's introductory email as this year's TISF President.

Dear Fellow Tipians,

It is again the time to start the great campus life. These days the TISF is working to plan and arrange different things to make your next year at campus as enjoyable as possible.

Orientation for Freshers

We are also planning for an effective & fun orientation day at TIP on 1st September 2003. For the event TISF needs Volunteers, which will work with TISF for various planned things on the orientation day (for example campus tour, etc). All students who are interested can register through email. All Volunteers who will perform their jobs efficiently will automatically become Event Managers for TISF.

TISF will properly acknowledge the services of all volunteers.

Societies & Clubs

In the first meeting of the TISF, we have decided to launch various societies & Clubs to make TISF open for students so that students can participate in things in which they otherwise not have the chance to enjoy. TISF will fully support these societies and will help them in physical and financial resources. Students interested in registering their society must do so before the orientation day (1st September, 2003) as TISF will make stall arrangements for the registered societies on the orientation day. There will be more than 150 freshers coming on the orientation day, so there is a great chance for you to make your society a success. Some of the proposed societies are:

  • Art & Design Society
  • Dramatics Society
  • Literature & Poetic Society
  • Movies Club
  • Textile Science Society
  • Textile Management society
  • Hostel Students' Society
  • Music Society
  • Islamic Society
  • Sports Societies (e.g Chess Club)
  • Adventure Club
  • Computer & Internet Club

You can register for any of the above - registration of any new Society requires has some pre-requisites. Interested students can contact for more information.

TISF members will be available at main campus from Monday 25th August 2003. Students who are interested in any of the above things can meet TISF at campus. If you have any plan or idea for orientation day or any activity please feel free to discuss it with us.

Lets make our TIP colorful like this email.

Yours sincerely,

Abdul Saboor
