Finding 'Miss Right' in a world so wrong

by Hassan Khalid

Nowadays, guys are more obsessed with the worry of finding a perfect match for themselves, than they had ever been in the past. Some amongst us might say frowning, "Phewww I have never had paid heed towards this issue and some might shrug and exclaim, "That's not a big blue for me, I am damn confident when it comes to "chicks." Whatever, but by and large, this finding is indigenous rather indispensable in every guys mind.

Although it has always been acceded upon that there is no threshold for predicting and foretelling as to what is brewing in a women's mind, but in the article I have tried to unveil the different pros and cons of different type of girls that the guys encounter nowadays.

The perfect "Mommy" girl:

Once in a while, you are into such a girl who has been trained by her mommy so as to handle every hurdle with tact. Although the credit goes to Mommy but the daughter is always there to prove her point of authority. She is submissive, friendly, with usually some very special culinary (kitchen) skill. She acts eerie when she starts discussing her home affairs and personal life's complications. So to go on with such a lass, you really have to be a good listener.

The Nincompoop girl (term taken from the fashion magazine)

Before talking about such girls I have a very significant statistic saying for you to swallow and i.e.

"Nearly 50% of the girls fall in this category."

Such girls are amazingly in a need to accept you as their savior and hero. After a couple of gossips, she starts imagining you as Brad Pitt.

Well I know that most of the guys are satisfied with a girl having such traits but be were that this much attention and blabbering from a girl can prove to be a hazardous overdose for some guys.

The egoistic girl:

Well, it's a bad news that the face of the earth has got plenty of such self-esteemed and egoistic creatures. Somebody might ask, What's their identity? The answer is that they always have an artificial gesture of proud ness over the face (even if the face isnt worth it). Their ascent is superficial and so are their words. They talk less and wink more, and their best time pass would be raising an eyebrow over you.

"Afraid?" Naaa, guys just remember that such girls are nothing but a piece of cake. They might look confidant but even a slight pimple on their nose can give them sleepless nights. So confidant and gutsy boys might put their hands over such "Bombshells."

The list may last forever but its better not to let the rabbit pop out of the hat because after all in this men's world women are becoming so much influential and daring. So, lastly, my advice to the machos is that before you bump into some one who is uncontrollable for you, just analyze yourself. Although I am of the view that virility is the veto power but even then nothing should be underestimated and especially "girls."

Leaving and Remembering TIP

Four years have passed and I now I am leaving TIP (not only I but also my 70 batch mates). At this moment when ever I get time, I recall the days that I spend at TIP, the hostel life, the TIP study hours, the nights before the hourlies (now exams), the TISF functions, BBQ night, musical night, carnival night, dramas, movie night in open air theater and above all the early days of the each semester when the fresh students lot come in, the ragging days and nights, the ISSB at hostel, the TIP evenings, the fast blowing cool winds in hot days. TIP for me is not only the place of learning but also the place for the enjoyments and I avail this opportunity. The time I spend at TIP, I would not forget never ever in life.

Here staying in staying in hostel and facing daily life problems when there is no one from your family to help u out. u have to resolve your problems yourself. The dealing with the seniors, batch mates, the juniors, admin, management, hostel, disciplinary and mass committee, warden and even with the guards is such an experience that teach u such lesson to survive in industry. The ragging days at hostel are the most exciting days, when I joined TIP I was ragged and then each coming year I used to rag the new comers. The ragging is the way to get interaction with new comers. When I came, my seniors took us to dinner at Quetta Saggi House and afterwards we have to pay the full bill of that dinner and next when we got seniors we ragged the students and have dinner at Mela (because in universe every thing is in balance). The ragging night at hostel, the songs, the rounds of the hostel, the national anthem early in the morning, the attendance at the hostel gate. All this is part of ragging but never meant to tease any one. One thing, which I am forgetting, the mishap with Khawaja. When I and Ahsan Bari fought in his room just for Bari complain at my home about smoking and then the compro-compro in the same room and the party from Khawaja (khun Khawaja shab) have you remember that or not.

Election days are the most busiest days at hostel. The direction all the political parties (in TIP’s not MMA, PPPP , PML(Q) or PML(N). Every body in the university is in fever of election. Hostel get into election campaign center and every body tries to get votes from hostel because hostel always played a major role of king maker. Hostel strength and votes count a lot and no body want to loose this bank and tries to maximize the votes. Some times, hostel plays the role of Mr. Nasr-u-Allah, make the alliance and get the candidates agree on the point to share their vote bank with some other post candidates for their mutual win.

Here the studies are not too simple as I thought four years ago before joining TIP. Here the TC phenomenon that matters lot in your grading. TC phenomenon is very simple but lots of students don’t have proper understanding (once Bilal from 2nd year came to me and asked me to tell him tips on TC and I gave him and now giving to every one, it’s very simple, if you want to get good grades and GPA you have to see your teachers a number of times in a days to get them memorized your name but this works when your are also performing well in class, this adds to your class reputation, if your are performing in lab then you have to have good friendship with the lab staff that matter a lot in your lab work grading. When I was in my first year have not got the facility of TAs but in my second year I got it and now TAs play a important role in your studies, not in grading but they can guide you in your presentation ands reports and if you have good relations with TAs then might be u got the topic of your choice or even the readymade report and presentation.

In coming 20-22 days we would be graduates and would transfer from Tipians to Texperts. How lovely is it? When you came in TIP four years ago you were nothing, and then become Tipians after four years you become a Texpert (textile expert). Now you are a professional. Be happy.

Something isn't right with our textile science course

Something isn't making sense; something is missing. Those who are supposed to help us understand the riddles of fiber science are not making their points clear! And this is happening in our course titled, non other than Textile-176.

According to the instructor, he has never had such horrid results ever in his teaching experience! An alarming number of students have flunked the second hourly and a huge number of C's and D's have been awarded. Since we've entered this institute we have been tortured in to believing that we are the worst thing ever happened to this place. The proverb works both ways I guess, there are times we feel that this place is the worst thing that could happen to anyon. Anyways I thought I might get a general opinion on the issue as burying our heads in sand and pretending that everything’s going to be alright won't get us any further.

Coming to the point, how many of you guys were able to answer the weirdoes (questions 3 and 4 in the second exam) logically? For those who don't know, question 3 required naming those end products that are only made with cotton and no other fiber can replace them whereas question 4 asked to replace them by any fiber that had been studied in the session included in the exam and give the production process till the end product keeping in mind the time to deliver the product to market.. People came up with different answers; some even wrote jute and asbestos!

The instructor claims that sometimes students are made to think about the wildest things in a logical way! What sort of fiber science are we being taught? At first you're told that end products can't be replaced and then asked to replace them with any fiber of your choice with the choices being sisal, jute, asbestos and wool. The teacher says that wool is the appropriate answer. Imagine wearing underpants or using towels made of wool. As far as under garments are concerned why use wool for it even in regions where cold climatic conditions prevail? Why not use acrylic instead! And forget about towels made of wool. Above all the target markets for both fibers are entirely different. Cotton is preferred for summer wear and wool for winters; I know Americans have developed summer wool for dressing purposes but for that, the production process is completely different. And we haven't studied that therefore couldn't use it in our answers.

This whole issue is being ignored because somehow some people managed to get some marks in both questions. But is it really about getting marks? Or is it about giving marks when answers don't make sense at all? How is any of this going to help clarify our concepts? I leave this to be answered by you.

The following article has been contributed by a student from first year.

It's Election Time Again!

by Javaria Said TDT2

It's election time. The time of the year, again, when the entire TIP student population becomes imbued with fervor rarely witnessed. Students never seen before participating in any event are suddenly on the forefront. People are being extremely nice and free food is the order of the day. People are seen fighting, dealing, bribing and wheedling votes for all they are worth. Votes are sold, promised and snatched. The atmosphere is tense and everybody is seen busy. People are approached, convinced and campaigning is carried out on full scale. People who you don't even recognize come up to you and act as bosom buddies. And then there are the personal attacks, the venom and the counter attacks. The amount of importance a 'seat' holds is unbelievable. It becomes a matter of life and death. Meetings are held, promises are made and deals are struck. Will people please lighten up?!

These are not elections for the president of the country, they are just TISF elections. People vote for absolutely worthless candidates just for the sake of dosti and end up suffering. Students every year complain that the TISF doesn't do anything. They say that it's useless. But do they do anything about it? NO. Why is it that when election time comes, people vote for the wrong person. It's pretty evident who is worthy and who is not. Why all this dealing?

Why aren't worthy candidates allowed to participate in the elections? Why do their peers discourage them from participating? Why are they themselves not willing to take part? Who would want to dig one's own grave?

The freedom to vote is the freedom to choose someone to represent you. The person you vote for is the person who will eventually become the collective voice of TIP. So you should vote just a tad more carefully. Sure the person standing may be your best friend or he may have promised you a dinner at Sheraton but if his competitor can be a better member of the TISF, wouldn't it be for your own long term interest to vote for him?

Remember, once the votes are cast, no one has any right to complain that the TISF is useless, these are the people you bring in therefore the least you can do is put up with them.

To hell with elections. Get a life people!

by Sadaf Haque TMM2

Elections! The filthy politics and its parasites have clutched everyone in its jaws once again. One steps into the campus and finds people sitting at their certain addas in tolies grabbing people passing by and asking them who they are voting for. People whispering in ears, conspiring and fabricating plots against each other, it's just too much. I just can't take it. For crying out loud we all belong to the same institution and should have same values when it comes to behavioral acts. These are the second elections that I am being forced to bear.

People consider voters preys to be grabbed and fed to the balloting room. People especially boys of the 1st year are scared that they might be caught by the supporters of any political party then be subjected to torture or threats incase they openly refuse support to the opposition.

This year the competition circumferences the TMM and AMM eligible to stand for the Finance Secretary position which has not only given birth to an urge of antagonism in the hearts of sciences but also discouraged the candidates who were planning to stand for the said post. They not only have considered it an attack on their ego but also their identity.

At TIP, it gets difficult to explain to people the logical theories behind one's intentions for why one is competing for a particular position. A candidate of ours from (I am sorry to say) 3rd year has come up with an insane logic to trick people into voting for him as General Secretary. I think you might have figured out who the gentleman is. The point under consideration being that one should go and explain to him that the construction of a mosque, in no way should be his criteria to grab votes. This is not a TISF responsibility. Nor can he generate enough funds to even build half of it. Had it have not been for one of our sane gentleman at the speeches who rejected the criteria and asked everyone not to consider the above mentioned option the story would have gone way off track. It was similar to showing an uneducated group of people a dream of becoming the best scholars in the world. People I ask you, has your brain stop functioning? Have you even given this matter the slightest thought?

Similarly there are two candidates competing for the post of TISF president. The stage on speech day seemed to be more of a battlefield where the candidates were being bombarded by personal grudges rather than a sane and peaceful political platform. One opponent was being blamed of being incapable of doing anything at all, deviating everyone's attention from the point that the other was equally incompetent. The moderator showed biases by only handing the mike to one of the candidate's supporters to ask questions. Moreover, the fact that he passed personal remarks on the candidate was purely an act of irresponsible and immature behavior. Being at such a post one should have kept his comments to himself.

People keep on bragging about what they will do during their tenure and in the end come up with nothing but lame excuses such as unavailability of funds and lack of student participation, hence placing the entire blame of their failure on others rather than accepting their very own poor governance or mismanagement of teams and resources.

We all think that the social secretary is incapable of doing anything at all but this time lets see who wins, the EVENT MANAGER comes up with what replenishing ideas to entertain us. Concerts my fellow students are not the only worthwhile events. There are many other ideas that can be entertained that require no budget at all.

The sports secretary who also has won unopposed will be I hope coming up with enthusiastic events to lighten up the year after the vacations and bring to us the standard of other institutions and colleges capable of competing in university level competitions. We need intercollegiate competitions please. TIP needs recognition.

Finally we come up to the last post of publication secretary who too is unopposed along with debates. Here I would like to mention the tragedy with our present to be debate secretary who due to his irresponsible attitude towards studies and imbued enthusiasm towards elections last year was awarded a probation hence leading to his dismissal from the post of finance secretary. I just hope this doesn't happen this year too. The publications secretary however is left to be still tested but it gives us relief to hear his name since he has been working the entire year for the magazine and has a superb team to contribute to and delegate authority to.

In the end I would just like to suggest to people to lighten up and get a life since they are just university elections and not a battle for life. One should keep aside hostel hostilities and forget discrimination on the basis of the abodes one resides in. Everyone is equal and should be provided with equal opportunities and the liberty to vote and choose rightly instead of being fed with all they ask for and in the end sell their votes to the most worthless and undeserving candidate.

I am sure that you will vote for me!

by Hassan Khalid TS3

"What the heck? Elections are upon us again." These words were uttered by an ordinary entity (me) as soon as I heard that we are again on the verge of this wicked game that in political dictionary finds it's presence as the elections. Who says that the dirtiest possible leg pulling & back stabbing is witnessed when elections are held on the national level? Just what you have to do is look around and ponder a little on what's going around nowadays in our campus. If still someone is reluctant or unable to ponder (due to the fear of chewing his brain out, smiles) then I can very well do the task. Back biting, false claims, dirty brain washing and summing up all "an unending battle with an unclear objective" is making waves every where.

During elections, groupings & relations are being strengthened & broken on the basis of the commitments that one makes with a panel or a person. The game is all about persuading the others to vote for the so called father figures; who are usually thought to be the privileged & blessed ones. No offence but my point of view is that they are merely Puppet Kings governing the stooge governments.

The most vulnerable creatures that find themselves in a complete mess (without being sexist as I'm not leaving women behind).Had I to term them as something regarding these election ; there isn't a better word than a donkey whose reins are being held by the seniors(yes I also remember that while I was in first year I also passed through the same donkey phase). These freshmen after being bullied and ragged from the start of their tenure at this university find themselves for the first time in a prestigious position where seniors are repeatedly coaching them and asking them for favours. But little do they know that as soon as they cast their votes they again throw the ball in the senior's court and they are nothing but puppets again. Yes, that's heart wrenching but it's a reality.

What pinches me the most is that we are struggling for a cause that never was, we are raising issues that never were and we are voting for those who never will be ours. If you find yourself affirmative with my views then I'm sure that you're going to vote for me by sending me your comments.

The Dramatics Within

by Dleep Kumar Rathore TS2B

During the lunch and Friday prayer break a group of first year students came and asked me about the importance of the TISF and its elections held annually which I deeply appreciated. I assumed my reply had satisfied these youngsters and had created a desire amongst them to work for the TISF in the coming year not knowing what was going through their minds.

Last Friday the speech session for the upcoming elections was held. The session which everyone was waiting for started inside the auditorium after the prayer break. There was a delay in proceedings, however, eventually things went underway with the moderator (G.S TISF) inviting the candidates to deliver their speeches. The crowd was so noisy that none of the candidates could deliver their speeches properly until the moment when candidates for the seat of president TISF were invited. After their respective speeches, the question and answer session started or should I say the drama started. Just as in a drama there is a villain and hero, we had two candidates one (the villain) from the ruling party (i.e. current TISF supporters) and the other candidate (the hero) from textile design (for the first time in TISF history) representing textile design and sciences jointly, especially second year science and management.

As the questions (controversial and personal most them) were thrown at them one by one by different students, the atmosphere inside the auditorium got heated. Though it was encouraging to see the students taking such interest in TISF activities, the questions became so personal and one sided at one point that either the session should have been called off or such silly questions should have been censored or dishonored by the moderator.

As I have mentioned earlier that it was more of a drama session than a speech session, and therefore the critical twist in the story had to take place. During one controversial question, the moderator not only supported the question but also became a part of it and started telling stories to the students against one poor candidate as if the host had held a personal feud with him. Such personal and one sided attitude of the TISF and its G.S was alarming and those who behaved in such a manner should have been ashamed of their behavior.

It should also be noticed that none of the faculty members were present, or at least the TISF coordinator should have been there. Had this happened that day I am sure such incidents would not have taken place.

At the end of it all I was left wondering how that group of first year students would be thinking and reacting to my answer to their question.

Meet the paparazzi

By Hassan Khalid (TS3)

As the hot summer is on its way, issues which are even hotter are brewing within the premises of our campus. Nopes, I am not going in to the clumsy details of the elections but the ongoing state of vengeance between the two genders (guys and the girls).

During the last two weeks, a couple of such strife has been reported but right now I am going to unveil just one. Two guys from third year (sciences) were having shakes at the shake corner of Iqbal Ahmed Student Center and the poor chaps less knew that they about to have electric shocks along with the shakes.

All of a sudden, Amir (the peon) approached these two revealing them startling news that the disciplinary committee wants to hear by them as soon as possible. Little did they know that some girls from designing (hiding their names for some sacred reasons) had alleged them of being paparazzi lurking around the campus (well good news for the Hollywood stars, they are not the only one being harassed) .In short the 2 guys met with the news that they had been involved in the wicked act of taking hidden pictures of those girls with the help of their camera fitted cell phones.

A member of the disciplinary committee took swift action and made his level best in checking out any required proof and after a detailed checking he would say eloquently "I know you guys very well as I also have been through the same phase, may be u have hidden or deleted those pictures."

A burning comment from the guy (being blamed) came along with all the sarcasm saying that the girls who have blamed us aren’t worthy of being photographed (a debatable topic).

And it was rebutted by another member of DC as what do u guys think of yourselves, are u models or something (well dudes at least I am of the view that u 2 can model in my private fashion ramp). The whole issue resulted in the baseless alleging of the girls and the innocence of the boys.

That was it, I am sure that many out there are will be ready to give my article a bad name, but the idea behind this writing wasn’t to lull you readers out there with some lullaby or to mock at the girls kittenish act and also not to turn guys attention towards their virility at stake but to make every one realize such acts bring nothing but a state of uncertainty that is always ready to trigger itself to abhorrence. So my advice the girls is to do nothing but to stuff your brains with some delicious nuggets of trust and broadmindedness.

This is being said on behalf of me without being obnoxious that I am not a chauvinist.
